Spray foam is the most powerful insulation material on the market, ideal for homes in Indiana and Ohio worried about cold winters and hot summers.
Sprayed on the interior surface of your walls or roof, closed cell spray foam expands and then hardens, creating a water-tight, wind-proof, and densely insulative barrier from the outdoors. When sprayed in homes that have no insulation, spray foam will dramatically improve warm and cool-weather comfort while also reducing heating and cooling costs.
If it needs insulation, we can help.

Closed cell spray foam is the best insulator for old and new homes alike for a number of reasons.
Closed cell spray foam provides unrivaled “R-value” or the strength of its ability to block heat transfer in either direction. It outperforms fiberglass, cellulose, open-cell foam, and rock wool.
Closed cell spray foam not only “insulates” but also provides a vapor barrier and air barrier. Unlike fiberglass, it stops wind and drafts, which is a significant factor in keeping your home cool or warm. It also won’t absorb water, meaning less risk of mold or mildew in your walls.
While closed cell foam costs a little more up front, the savings can’t be beat. We expect most homeowners to save at least 20% on their heating and cooling costs when going from no insulation to a well-insulated space.
Closed cell spray foam truly is the best insulation available. It starts with its insulative capabilities.
Insulation’s ability to stop heat transfer – as-in cold air making its way indoors during the winter, or cool air making its way out of the home during the summer – is measured by its R-value. The higher the R-value, the greater its thermal resistance and insulative effectiveness.
But that’s not all that closed cell spray foam has to offer, because good insulation isn’t just about R-value. Of equal importance is the ability of your home’s exterior and interior insulation to stop air currents. Imagine a perfectly insulated room with a 1-inch gap running the length of one exterior wall – no matter how well you heat, you’ll always have a draft coming in.
Closed cell spray foam expands when installed, filling gaps and creating a powerful air barrier against air movement. This is a central component of what makes closed cell foam so great as an insulator. Even in old drafty farmhouses, it can help seal up the interior from the outside, particularly when there’s nothing but original wood siding on the home!
Closed cell spray foam also blocks moisture. Compared to fiberglass batting or cellulose, which will soak up water and rarely dry out, it carries virtually no risk of mold or mildew creation.
Finally, closed cell spray foam actually improves the structural integrity of the building! Because it dries so hard, it “tightens up” the framing of the building. This is ideal for a variety of settings, from old homes to car ports! And, closed cell spray foam will not burn thanks to fire-retardant materials built-in.
If you want to save money in the short-term, go with fiberglass – if you want the best and are looking for meaningful cost-savings in the long-run, you want closed cell foam insulation.
Modern closed cell foam is safe for use in any environment. While you may have heard about spray foam problems many years ago, the process and formula have evolved over the years, and a good installer will not have any problems. While we suggest that homeowners stay out of the house during the day our installers are on-site, your spray foam will be dry and done off-gassing within about 12 hours.
Closed cell foam cures much harder than open cell foam, and it will not absorb water. It also has a higher R-value.
Open cell foam cures into a soft material (you can even grab a handful), and will not act as a vapor barrier.
Two inches of closed cell foam has about the same R-value as four or five inches of open cell foam.
95% of the spray foam we install is closed cell. The small amount of open cell foam installation we do is generally between apartments in a residential complex, where it provides a superior sound barrier and moisture is not a concern.
We recommend installing at least two inches of closed cell foam insulation in walls, and three inches in ceilings or underneath roofs. You can of course add more, but two to two-and-a-half inches is ideal.
You can buy DIY spray foam kits at many home improvement stores, but due to the precise nature of the material mix and the potential for improper application, we generally don’t recommend DIY insulation kits for most people. We’ve heard enough horror stories from homeowners who tried it themselves to suggest using a professional insulation company in most situations.
